Review: Boston Viewfinder

Boston Viewfinder, a recent project of Mariya Nikiforova & Stefan Grabowski of Balagan along with Max Goldberg, is hitting it out of the park with its listings of Boston and NYC independent film events! We’re so enthused with their thoughtful write up about our film, to screen July 15th at the Brattle Theater.

Lynne Sachs’ latest experimental documentary fuses techniques of oral history and performance to achieve an impressionistic portrait of seven characters sharing a shift-bed apartment in New York’s Chinatown. Previously illuminated by photographer Jacob Riis’ harsh flash bulb, the shift-bed here translates as an intimate site of shared experience. Sachs’ openness to different approaches to storytelling results in a layered, delicate work of nonfiction.
